The following comment was attached: In all the other research on the family it spelt McDermid and mom says that her greatgrandmother spells it this way also in tthe 1881 census it is spelt this way also

This comment was added: Transcription rules oblige me to copy it exactly as written including any spelling errors. There is a mechanism for suggesting an alternate spelling.
